and progress made this past year.

Hired our first organizer!
In April, CPT voted in a new coordinating committee to support the organization through outreach efforts, event planning, writing policy, and all the other things that keep us going. This Fall, we hired Dana Beveridge as our first organizer! She is a recent graduate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Shout out to CPT member Robert Winn for supporting this transition.

#HealTheHealthline!
This October, we organized Heal the Healthline, a ride-a-long from Public Square to University Circle to bring attention to the inefficiencies of the Healthline. Cleveland City Council Members Matt Zone and Kerry McCormack will focus on decriminalizing fare evasion while RTA Board member Justin Bibb has agreed to look into restoring proof-of-payment on the HealthLine. Watch video from the event here.

Making the System Redesign a reality
Since fare increases and service cuts were announced years ago, CPT has advocated to redraw RTA service to grow ridership instead. Jarrett Walker & Associates, a sought-after transit consultant, was brought in to conduct a System Redesign study. CPT worked tirelessly to spread the word about the study surveys and has been consistently pushing the board to move forward. The redesign would result in 167,000 more people being within a half mile of 15 minute or better transit service with no additional cost.
We will keep pushing in 2020 until the redesign is implemented.
“Frequent bus, frequent bus, frequent bus all day! Redesign grows ridership, RTA cannot delay, hey!” (Watch the news clip here!)

Advocating for new RTA leadership
Last fall, CPT contributed to RTA’s national search for a new General Manager that would be committed to riders. India Birdsong was hired in August, and CPT has since met with her to learn about her vision and discuss our Fair Fares platform.

Pushing for Fair Fares
In 2018, CPT released our Fair Fares plan. Since then, hikes that would have increased fares to $2.75 and all day passes to $6 have been delayed, saving riders over $1 million dollars! Also, RTA agreed to review their fare polices and are wrapping up a fare equity study with many recommendations in line with our Fair Fares plan. In 2020, we continue to push for cheaper fares, fare-capping and more.
