After reviewing #FairFares plan, RTA Board delays fare hikes & announces public meetings!
Clevelanders for Public Transit applauds RTA’s decisions to delay the fare increase scheduled for 2018 in order to study RTA’s fare structure to ensure affordability for all riders, as well as RTA’s implementation of quarterly meetings to engage and inform riders prior to service changes.
While these are positive steps, RTA’s Board of Trustees must act by putting a local levy on the ballot this year to escape the death spiral by addressing the funding crisis. Since 2007, fares have nearly doubled while service has decreased by nearly 25 percent.
Clevelanders for Public Transit looks forward to working with RTA’s Board of Trustees and RTA staff over the next year to find and implement solutions to the current death spiral, including the Fair Fares platform which includes recommendations for improving RTA.
Upon resignation of RTA’s Chairman Dixon, CPT Urges Appointment of riders to RTA’s Board!
Clevelanders for Public Transit believes that this is an opportune time for the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County to appoint at least one regular RTA rider to the Board of Trustees. Please contact your County Council Representative and/or Cleveland City Council Representative and request they appoint a rider to the RTA Board.
Clevelanders for Public Transit looks forward to working with RTA’s Board of Trustees and RTA staff to transform RTA into a high-performing organization that lives its values, is worthy of public support and serves the interest of RTA riders.

RTA Board still needs to adopt the full #FairFares plan!
At the February RTA Board meeting, riders presented our #FairFares plan.
After reviewing the report, RTA Board members voted in March to delay the 2018 fare increase!
RTA will study the fare increase during the next 12 months. Now is the time to adopt our #FairFares plan!
#FairFares is about more than affordable fares, it is also about making RTA safer and more convenient. The RTA Board must act to make improvements and stop the death spiral.
We will continue to attend RTA Board meetings to show support for #FairFares. Stay tuned for more info on how you can support #FairFares.
